Are you organized to the point where you know where everything is and remember every task that has to be done? If you are nodding and saying ‘yes’ then I applaud you because I am the same! But, and there is always a but, we all have different systems to stay organized and to remind ourselves of our tasks, and some of the ways we chose to do those two things are not always the greatest idea.
Sticky notes, or more commonly used name, Post-It Notes. Can you picture this, an office wall full of different coloured sticky notes. Confusion, and a big mess. Alternatively if you are like my business partner/husband Dave he is very rigid in his organizational skills and sticks the notes on his white board. He then draws three lines down the white board so he has three separate columns: To Do, In Progress, Completed.
He then sticks a note in a column that describes the task, and what state that task is in, such as ‘To Do’, etc. For instance, his first note could be ‘Draft a report for ABC Organization by 3rd December’. That note would be stuck on the board under the first column which Dave marked ‘To Do’. When Dave starts work on this task, he moves the note over to the ‘In Progress’ column. This gives him a view of what he’s currently working on, and what is coming up. When a task is completed, it is moved into the ‘Completed’ column making it easy to report on what has been finished.
But, Dave has found a better solution for him, that does the same thing, saves more trees and is an on-line service. He discovered that his notes on the board on his wall were getting too busy, he could not keep up with all his tasks and his garbage bin was always full of sticky notes!
He recommends using Trello. Trello’s boards, lists, and cards enable you to organize and prioritize your projects in a fun, flexible and rewarding way’. Here is the link, see what you think of it and if you have any questions feel free to ask them here, and also share your thoughts on what you think about this online service Dave is very happy using. https://trello.com/
